WHat is “Beyond organic”?
All products grown at Wild Hope Farm are USDA Certified Organic, however, we focus our growing practices “beyond organic,” meaning we are heavily investing in our soil health and enhancing our biodiversity on the farm. Our goal is to regenerate the land so that we can continue to grow resilient crops in the soil for decades to come. We want to provide our community with nourishing food they can trust to be clean.
This multi-faceted approach includes all of the following:
Cover cropping in between cash crops
Applying compost to increase organic matter
Maintaining pollinator plots and planting annual flowers in production fields
Using drip irrigation to conserve water
Building a retention pond to catch run off and attract beneficial insects
Planting conservation buffers - hedgerows and riparian buffers
Applying beneficial nematodes
Reducing tillage during the rainy season through tarping (we have roughly 3 acres under tarp in the late spring!)
Investing in healthy transplants that require less inputs
Regenerative farming is also people centered.
We care deeply about our employees. The systems we designed were with the physical and mental sustainability of our team top of mind.
We acknowledge that farming at scale is not possible without a strong, healthy team. All our full-time, year-round employees receive paid days off to rest and recuperate. Through benefits, compensation, and retirement planning, we are focused on creating a professional work environment where employees can be Career Farmers.
